About
New York is a useful base camp. From Midtown you can reach Niagara Falls, Washington D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, the Hamptons, and the Hudson Valley in a single day, with a guide handling the logistics. Each option is a full day — typically 12–16 hours from pickup to drop-off — but the upside is one ticket, no driving, and no train transfers.
Niagara Falls trips usually fly one leg and bus the other, which is the fastest way to cover the distance and still see the falls. Washington D.C. and Boston are bus-only, with a National Mall walking tour or Freedom Trail stop included. The Hudson Valley and Hamptons day trips are more relaxed, with stops at small towns, wineries, or beaches depending on the route.
Book at least a week ahead in peak season. Most operators run multiple departures per week year-round, but the popular spring and fall slots fill first.
Frequently asked questions
What time do day trips depart from New York?
Most day trips leave between 6:30 and 7:30 AM from Midtown pickup points. Return time is typically between 9:00 and 11:00 PM depending on traffic. Exact times are confirmed at booking.
Are meals included?
Usually no, though most itineraries include a meal stop with options at every budget. A few premium tours include lunch — check the inclusion list on the tour page.
Are day trips guided in languages other than English?
English-language guides are standard. Spanish, French, Italian, and Mandarin tours are available on selected dates and routes. Language is listed on each tour page.
Can I bring large luggage?
Day-trip buses do not have luggage storage suited for full suitcases. Day packs, cameras, and shopping bags are fine. If you're between hotels, leave luggage at your hotel's bell desk for the day.
What is the cancellation policy for day trips?
Most day trips allow free cancellation up to 48–72 hours before departure. Last-minute cancellations forfeit the fare in most cases. Check the policy on each tour page.
Are tours accessible for wheelchair users?
Some routes are wheelchair accessible by request — Washington D.C. and Boston tours are most often equipped. Niagara Falls boats and parts of the Hamptons route have terrain limitations. Contact support@travelnewyork.com before booking to confirm.
How much walking is involved?
Most day trips include 1–3 miles of walking across multiple stops. Niagara Falls and the Hudson Valley include shorter walks; Washington D.C. and Boston tours include more ground.
Is the Niagara Falls day trip really doable in one day?
Yes, with a flight outbound and a bus back (or vice versa). The day is long — 14–16 hours — but the time at the falls is roughly 4–5 hours, which is enough for the boat ride, the observation tower, and a meal.
