The Guggenheim: Entry Ticket

Few buildings in New York pull you in the way the Guggenheim does. Frank Lloyd Wright's great white spiral rises along Fifth Avenue at the edge of Central Park, looking less like a museum than a piece of sculpture you can walk inside. Step through the doors and the famous rotunda opens above you, a slow ramp curling upward beneath a domed skylight that floods everything with soft daylight. You don't march from room to room here; you drift, the art unspooling at your shoulder as the city falls away.

Along that gentle climb you'll meet some of the boldest names in modern and contemporary art, from Impressionist masters to Picasso and the restless experiments of the twentieth century. The real pleasure is how the architecture and the art talk to each other, every turn framing a fresh view back across the open central well. It's a calm, unhurried corner of the Upper East Side, and an easy favourite for anyone who wants their New York days to hold a little beauty as well as bustle.
